Course Corrections - December 2023

Status Updates:

It's been a heck of a year. I didn't do all I wanted to do, but managed to get most of it done.

What's Next:

The Wizard's Cat
No. Not yet. I'm getting closer to figuring out why this book - of all of them - is being so stubborn.

The SC Marva Collins (no change):
Book 1: School Days - Published in ebook and paper. The Podium book for Audible is up for preorder, it's due to drop in this month.
Book 2: Working Class - Published in ebook and paper. Podium has the manuscript and will schedule it for sometime after School Days.
Book 3: Hard Knocks - Published in ebook and paper. Podium has the manuscript and will schedule it for sometime after Working Class.

What I'm Reading:

Mostly catching up on various series in progress over the last few weeks.

Rather than give you the book of the month, I'll recommend the two best series I read this year.

AJ Lancaster's Lord of Stariel just hit all the right notes for me. Lovely characters. Great setting. Some interesting plot twists.

Second, Mel Todd's excellent Twisted Luck series. I really got pulled into the world and have thought about it often in the months since I read it.

Yes, both are fantasy.

I recommended my SF pick for the year, Jenny Schwartz, last month with Scarper, but she has so much other stuff out there. I enjoyed it all and she's become one of my auto-buy authors, one of the few I don't bother to sample first.

Looking Ahead:

Another year almost done. When I think back to where I began this year - still recovering from treatments, still chemo fogged, still barely able to eat solid food - compared to where I am today? I'm doing a lot better.

Clearing the Marva Collins from her hangar was a major effort. Struggling with the Cat has been a frustrating experience, one that I'm not done with yet, but I haven't given up on it. I can be stubborn if I need to be.

Next year? We'll see how it goes. I still have the sequel to Salt to work on with EJ.

As for this year, my sincere thanks to all of your for your patience and your support. It has made all the difference.

Until next month, safe voyage.

Remember
I update the blog every month on the first so if you're wondering what's happening, you can check there to get an interim report until the next one shows up in your inbox.

Beta Readers:

Every so often, I put out a call for beta readers. These are people who are willing to read the work in progress in a short period of time with only the briefest of notices.

I'm going to be fine tuning this process going forward but if you'd like to be considered for future works, then click this link.

It puts a tag on your address in the email list. You don't have to check anything. The ConvertKit people (who store the addresses) will handle it and then take you to a page to tell you that your preferences have been set. By clicking that link you're done.

And thanks.

Fine Tuning:

Would you prefer to get ONLY new release notices? YES, PLEASE

Note: Newsletter people will get New Release notices, too, but
I've had several people say they preferred to only hear from me when I
release a new book so I'm trying to accommodate them.

Status Updates: Ups and downs but there is progress being made. Some of it with writing, even. What's Next: The Wizard's CatIt's coming together. You know what they say about herding cats. Future IshmaelIshmael's still on my table for future works. Tanyth FairportI really want to get back to her and the people in that world. When I'll find the time is anybody's guess. The audiobooks are still in limbo. Sorry. What I'm Reading: Lots of reading this month with "next in the series" books, but a...

Status Updates: Color me "Cautiously Optimistic" after too many weeks of thinking "any day now." What's Next: The Wizard's CatI'm pretty sure this Cat may be feral. Every time I put out food and water, offer it shelter, it sneaks in during the night, eats the food, spills the water, and hacks up a hairball on the doorstep. So, basically, acts like a cat. Lately, I've found dead mice on the front porch, lined up as gifts. I think I'm winning. Maybe. Future IshmaelSeveral people have asked...

Status Updates: I started out with such good intentions and wound up with all these paving bricks. What's Next: The Wizard's CatIt's still the only work on my word processor. I'm still trying to get my head around it so I can actually finish it. The SC Marva Collins (no change):All three of the Marva Collins books are now up in ebook, paper, and audio. Future IshmaelSeveral people have asked about Ishmael's future. I'm not done with him yet. At least I'm not done with that universe. There's...
